Q.1 What is Travel Insurance?
A.1 Our travel insurance is designed to protect you while travelling abroad on holidays. This web site contains a full description of cover and policy wording which you should read before deciding to purchase cover.
Q.2 How do I purchase cover?
A.2 Simply follow a few easy steps from the Get Quote screen. Our site has state of the art software security, so you don’t have to worry about giving us your personal details.
Q.3 Can I purchase cover if I live outside Ireland?
A.3 No, you have to be a resident of Ireland for the last six months to avail of this particular travel insurance product.
Q.4 How do I get my Policy Document?
A.4 Your policy document will be sent to you by email as soon as your credit card details have been validated. A copy of the policy wording is available for you to view online by simply clicking on the Policy Summary link
Q.5 Who do I contact in the event of a query under my policy?

Q.6 Do I have to carry a copy of my policy with me when travelling?
A.6 Although you do not need to carry your policy document with you for cover to operate, we recommend that you bring it with you every time you travel. It is a particularly important document as among other things it provides you with details on what to do in the event of a medical emergency. In addition, some foreign medical providers may wish to see documentation before they will agree to treat you.

Q.7 Where can I obtain a copy of the policy document?
A.7 A full policy wording and description of cover for the product you require can be found by clicking on the Policy Document along the top of the web site.
Q.8 When does my cover begin? When does it end?
A.8 The trip cancellation protection will become effective immediately upon purchasing your insurance. The remaining cover and services provided will take effect when you leave your home to commence a trip. All cover and services for single trip cover will terminate when you return to Ireland or at the end of the period shown on your policy, whichever is earlier. Multi trip policies will terminate upon the expiry date of the policy.
Q.9 Are there any exclusions or limitations to the policy?
A.9 Yes. 123.ie travel insurance does not cover pre-existing medical conditions and excludes comparatively high risk activities. For a complete listing of exclusions and limitations, please refer to the policy document.
Q.10 Can I cancel my trip for any reason and get all my money back?
A.10 No. You may receive a reimbursement if you cancel for any reason outlined in your policy document. Covered reasons include, but are not limited to, such unforeseen emergencies as illness, injury or death of you, your travelling companion and/or a relative. The cover does not include cancellation due to business obligations, change of mind or your dislike of the travel time. Pre-existing medical conditions are not covered.
Q.11 I have a medical condition. Can I buy your policy?
A.11 123.ie travel insurance has a full Pre-Existing Medical Condition Clause as detailed in the policy document. You can still buy insurance but it is important to note that you may not be covered for existing illnesses or conditions. Please read this clause carefully.
Q.12 What is meant by Pre-Existing Condition?
A.12 "Pre-existing condition" refers to injury, sickness, disease, illness or other medical condition that you knew about or should have known about before you bought this insurance. For a complete description of Pre-Existing Conditions, please refer to your policy document.
Q.13 What if I change my mind after I purchase this Travel Insurance?
A.13 Please email us on travel@123.ie if you feel this policy is not suitable for your needs and you require a refund. This email should reach us no later than 14 days after you have purchased your insurance. We will only give you a refund if you have not travelled or there have been no incidents which may give rise to a claim under your policy.
Q.14 Do I have to buy Travel Insurance at any specific time?
A.14 Yes. To protect your own interests you should purchase cover at the same time you purchase your travel package. You can buy it at a later date but it will not cover events which have already occurred.
Q.15 Can I insure my partner?
A.15 You can insure your Partner if they are aged over 18 and you have been co habiting as a couple in the same dwelling for 6 months.
Q.16 What age catagories and benefits apply to children?
A.16 Under our Single Trip Policies there is a special “Family Rate” which covers two parents and an unlimited number of dependant children up to 18 years at the time of purchase and named on the policy. If you chose to purchase our Annual Multi Trip Policy all dependant children up to 18 years are covered free of charge provided they are named. On all policies children receive the same benefits as adults, apart from the Permanent Total Disablement benefit, which does not apply. The death benefit is €7,000 for children under 16 years.
Q.17 Must children be accompanied by their parents to qualify for cover?
A.17 No, but it is a requirement of the policy that they meet up with parents or relatives on reaching their non stop destination.
Q.18 What is the maximum duration of a period of travel under the Annual Multi Trip cover?
A.18 The maximum duration of any one period of travel must not exceed 45 days, if it does your cover is invalidated from the start date of the trip. The period of travel must start and finish in the Republic of Ireland.
Q.19 Is there a limit as to the number of trips I can make under the Annual Multi Trip cover?
A.19 No, as long as each period of travel does not exceed 45 days you can travel as often as you wish. However, if you go on a trip that exceeds 45 days, your cover is invalidated from the start of the trip, and you need to purchase a Single Trip Policy to cover this trip specifically.
Q.20 Will my Annual Multi Trip insurance policy renew automatically?
A.20 No, before it expires we will issue you with an invitation to renew your cover.
Q.21 Does my policy cover me if I am travelling on business?
A.21 No, our policy only covers leisure travel.
Q.22 Am I covered for holidays I take within Ireland?
A.22 No, our travel insurance only covers you for trips to destinations outside Ireland.
Q.23 Can I purchase your insurance if I am moving abroad permanently?
A.23 Yes, but cover will cease as soon as you arrive at your country of destination.
Q.24 What service does Chartis Assistance Services offer?
A.24 Chartis Assistance Services operate a 24 hour emergency service. They can liaise with doctors and hospitals, guarantee medical charges and emergency repatriation if medically necessary, and most importantly liaise with your relatives at home.
Q.25 Who do I contact in the event of a medical emergency?
A.25 In the event of a medical emergency, you must contact Chartis Assistance Services within 48 hours. They must authorise payment of all in-patient hospital, clinic or nursing home expenses, emergency repatriation or curtailment expenses. Unauthorised claims may not be paid so please contact them as soon as possible on 00 44 1243 621 538.
Q.26 Who do I contact in the event of a claim (other than medical emergencies) under my policy?
A.26 Any occurrence or loss which may give rise to a claim should be advised immediately to Chartis Claims Services, OSG Travel Claims, Merrion Hall, Strand Road, Dublin 4. Telephone 01 661 9133. or travel@osg.ie Claim forms can be downloaded from www.osg.ie
Q.27 What excesses apply under the policy?
A.27 Most sections of your policy have an excess where you have to contribute a certain amount per claim. The excess is applied to each Insured Person and varies from section to section. Please read your policy document for the exact amount.
Q.28 What is the single article limit applying to the Personal Baggage section?
A.28 The maximum payment for any one article, pair, set or valuables is €350.
Q.29 I’m going Scuba Diving, am I covered?
A.29 Yes, this policy will cover you for Scuba Diving but there are provisions and limitations. Please ensure you read your policy document carefully.
Q.30 Am I covered if I go skiing?
A.30 If you are purchasing a Single Trip Policy you need to extend your policy to cover skiing. If you purchase Annual Multi Trip policy you automatically have cover for up to 17 days skiing.
Q.31 Do I have cover for Golf Clubs?
A.31 There is only a limited amount of cover for golf clubs on our standard policy.
Q.32 What is the maximum length under the Single Trip?
A.32 The maximum length under Single Trip is 365 days.
Q.33 How do I book a one way trip?
A.33 Enter the start date of your trip and for the return date, enter the following day
Q.34 Am I covered if I am pregnant?
A.34 Yes, but you are not covered if you are expected to give birth twelve weeks before the end of your trip (or sixteen weeks in the case of a multiple birth)
Q.35 Are there any countries excluded under my insurance?
A.35 Yes, your policy does not cover any trip in, to or through the following countries; Afghanistan, Cuba, Liberia, or Sudan.
