I have purchased a UK registered car. Can I transfer my insurance?
Yes! If you've bought a UK-registered car, you can quickly transfer your insurance cover directly through your My123 account.
What details will 123.ie need when changing to a UK-registered car?
When changing the insured car, we’ll ask you for some important details, including:
- Registration number (UK plates)
- Exact make, model, and style
- Engine capacity (exact cc)
- Body type (e.g., hatchback, saloon)
- Security features (alarms, immobilisers, trackers)
- Any modifications to the vehicle
Are there specific criteria for insuring a UK-registered vehicle?
Yes, your new UK-registered car needs to meet certain criteria before we can provide insurance:
- The vehicle must be used as a private car, not for business or commercial use.
- It must be registered to you or your legally recognised spouse, civil partner, or cohabiting partner.
- You must be the main driver.
- The car should be right-hand drive.
What should I do after re-registering the car in Ireland?
Once you've re-registered your car with an Irish registration, please inform us immediately. If we don't have the updated Irish registration details by your renewal date, we might not be able to offer you a renewal quote.
Are there additional charges when transferring insurance?
If there's an additional cost involved, this must be paid before the cover for your new car can begin.
