123.ie delighted to offer Irish Remote Interpreting Service

123.ie are delighted to offer our customers the opportunity to access the Irish Remote Interpreting Service (IRIS). IRIS allows a deaf person to use a remote sign language interpreter to speak to one of the 123.ie insurance agents.

This service allows 123.ie to provide insurance quotes to the deaf community across all our insurance products, Car, Home, Travel, Health & Life . It also allows us to support members of the deaf community who may have queries around their current insurance policies.  We are the first insurance company in Ireland to provide this service.

Leah Ward, Head of Operations said: “We are delighted to make this video remote interpreting service available to anyone who is looking for an insurance quote or policy information in the deaf community. We know that there can be difficulties experienced by the deaf community in accessing support and information from insurers and we would like to be at the forefront of a step towards accessibility for everyone”.

Members of the deaf community who wish to access the service can email (remote@slis.ie) or text (086 012 5900). This service is available Monday-Friday 10am-4pm.

IRIS is operated by the Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS) and is funded and supported by the Citizens Information Board. Irish Remote Interpreting Service (IRIS) is a joint project between the Irish Deaf Society (IDS), DeafHear.ie and Sign Language Interpreting Service (SLIS). IRIS provides a live video-link to an Irish Sign Language interpreter using a range of programmes such as Skype, ooVoo or Microsoft video-conferencing. The interpreter is based in the SLIS centre and interprets using a computer with internet access and a webcam.
