Can I purchase cover if I live outside Ireland?

No, we’re sorry, but you and all other persons insured must be currently residing in the Republic of Ireland and must have lived here for at least six of the last 12 months.

How do I get my policy document?

Should I carry a copy of my policy with me when travelling?

We recommend that you bring it with you every time you travel. It is a particularly important document as among other things it provides you with details on what to do in the event of a medical emergency. In addition, some foreign medical providers may wish to see documentation before they will agree to treat you.

What do you mean by a “pre-existing condition”?

A "pre-existing condition" refers to a medical condition or an illness or death related to a medical condition which you, or any person who your trip depends on, (this would include a relative or a business associate) knew about before you bought this insurance policy.

Are there any exclusions or limitations?

Yes, as there are with all insurance policies. For example, it does not cover pre-existing medical conditions and excludes some high-risk activities. Can I cancel my trip for any reason and get all my money back?

No. You may receive a reimbursement if you cancel for any reason outlined in your policy document. Covered cancellation reasons include, but are not limited to, unforeseen emergencies such as illness, injury or death of you, your travelling companion and/or a relative. The cover does not include cancellation due to business obligations, change of mind or your dislike of the travel time. Pre-existing medical conditions are not covered.

I have a medical condition. Can I buy your policy?

Yes, but you will not be covered for problems resulting from that illness or condition. Please read the full details in the policy booklet.

Can I change my mind after I purchase this travel Insurance?

If you change your mind, just email us at travel@123.ie for a full refund. We must receive this within 14 days of purchasing the policy and it must be cancelled before you begin your trip and prior to a claim being made.

Do I have to buy travel insurance at any specific time?

No, but we recommend you arrange cover at the same time as you purchase your travel tickets. If you buy it at a later date it will not cover events which have already occurred.

What age categories and benefits apply to children?

On all policies children receive the same benefits as adults, apart from the Permanent Total Disablement benefit, which does not apply. The death benefit is €7,000 for children under 16 years.

Must children be accompanied by their parents to qualify for cover?

Children under 18 years of age are only entitled to travel separately to the main insured person if they are travelling with a relative, guardian or person with a legal duty of care. Please read the full details in the policy booklet.

What is the maximum length of time a Single Trip policy covers?

The maximum length of time covered under Single Trip is 365 days.

What is the maximum length of a trip on an Annual Multi-Trip policy covers?

You’re covered so long as any one period of travel doesn’t exceed 45 days – on day 46 cover ceases. The period of travel must start and finish in the Republic of Ireland.

Is there a limit as to the number of trips I can make with Annual Multi-Trip cover?

No. You can take as many holidays as you like as long as any one period of travel doesn’t exceed 45 days – on day 46 cover ceases. The period of travel must start and finish in the Republic of Ireland..

Will my Annual Multi-Trip policy renew automatically?

No, however we will notify you prior to your travel insurance expiring.

Does my policy cover me if I am travelling on business?

No, our policies only cover leisure travel.

Am I covered for holidays I take within Ireland?

No, our travel policies cover only outside of the Republic of Ireland. Please read the full details in the policy booklet.

Who do I contact if there’s a medical emergency?

Our 24-hour global assistance service is operated by Healix. Please contact the helpline within 48 hours on +44 20 8763 3074 or email them at internationalhealthcare@healix.com. An experienced co-ordinator will give you all the help you need as well as authorising payment of all in-patient hospital or clinicexpenses, emergency repatriation or curtailment expenses. Unauthorised claims may not be paid, so please contact them as soon as possible.

How do I make a claim other than for medical emergencies?

Just let us know in writing at 123.ie Travel Claims Services, Sedgwick Ireland, Merrion Hall, Strand Road, Dublin 4, or by phone on 01 661 9133 or by email at travel@ie.sedgwick.com. You can contact us during normal office hours and claim forms can also be downloaded here.

Are there any excesses?

Yes, there are excesses under some sections which mean you must contribute a certain amount per claim. Please refer to the policy booklet you received when you purchased your policy. Our current policy booklet is available here.

What is the “single article limit” in the personal baggage section?

The maximum payment for any one article, pair, set or valuables is €350.

Am I covered for scuba diving?

Yes, this policy will cover you for scuba diving but there are some provisions and exclusions. Please ensure you read your policy document you received when you purchased your policy carefully. Our current policy booklet is available here.

Am I covered if I go skiing?

Yes, if you choose a Single Trip with Winter Sports cover or our annual Multi Trip policies. Cover is provided for up to 17 days in total for winter sports cover including skiing. Please ensure you read your policy document carefully here.

Do I have cover for golf clubs?

Yes, this is covered on Gold Single or Multi Trip policies under personal belongings up to €350. Call us on 1890 221 123 and we’ll take care of it. Please ensure you read your policy document you received when you purchased your policy carefully. Our current policy booklet is available here.

Are there any countries excluded under my insurance?

No, however please note that any claim resulting from you travelling to a country where the Department of Foreign Affairs has advised against all but essential travel is excluded under our policy. You can find travel advice from the Department of Foreign Affairs here
