Winter Driving

Due to the recent weather warning extra care is needed when driving over the next week. Be aware of the basic precautions you can take to help avoid the extra hazards at this time of year.

• If roads are icy, do not make the journey unless it is essential.

• Make sure that there is clear vision through all windows before setting off.

• Check tyres for baldness and ensure that they are inflated to the correct pressure.

• Check that your car lights are all working before you set off on your journey.

• Always keep your distance from the car in front.

• Slow acceleration and braking will help you control your car on snow and ice covered roads.

• Never leave your car keys in the ignition while your car is unattended.

• Make sure to regularly check your fuel level to avoid being stranded in the freezing weather.

• If you're stuck in the cold weather with a breakdown, it's important to stay warm while waiting for help to arrive. Call our Breakdown Assistance team on 01 241 8572.

• Try using main roads on your journey. They are more likely to be cleared and had grit put down to help with snow and ice.

• If you're involved in an accident call our Claims team on 01 290 1999. We're always here to help you.
