How do I cancel my policy?

For Car Insurance Customers

To cancel your Car Insurance policy you need to send us back your insurance certificate and disc with a written request confirming the cancellation date.

 If you have recently taken out a Car Insurance policy and are choosing not to proceed with it, you can cancel your policy over the phone by contacting our Customer Care team on 01 524 6029 before your insurance certificate and disc have been issued.

  • If you are inside your 14 day cooling off period, there will be no cancellation fee. The set up fee is non-refundable and we will just charge you for each day of cover you had. If you have not used any of the cover, you will need to note this in your cancellation request and we will issue you a full refund less the set up fee.
  • A €40 cancellation fee applies unless you are cancelling within your 14 day cooling off period
  • If you have paid by direct debit, the service charge will be retained once we have applied for your fist instalment.
  • If you cancel your policy within the cooling off period or you are in your second consecutive year of insurance, you will be charged for each day you have been on cover.
  • If you are outside of your cooling off period and within your first year of insurance, you will be charged a percentage of your premium depending on how long you have been on cover. See below table which gives these percentages in more detail.

  • Please remember if you had a claim on your policy (including windscreen claims) during the year, no refund will be due and we will seek payment of your policy in full.
  • Once the policy has been cancelled, we will send you a letter confirming this.

For Home Insurance Customers

To cancel your Home Insurance policy you will need to contact our Customer Care team to confirm  when you want the policy to be cancelled from. If you are sending your request in writing it can be posted, emailed or faxed to us. If emailing this, please remember it must come from the email address noted on your policy and be registered in the name of the policyholder.

If there is a second proposer on your policy we will need the request to be sent to us in writing and signed by both of the proposers. If you are inside your 14 day cooling off period there will be no cancellation fee. The set up fee is non-refundable and we will just charge you for each day of cover you had. If you have not used any of the cover you will need to note this in your cancellation request and we will issue you a full refund less the set up fee. 

  • If you are outside your 14 day cooling off period, the set up fee is non-refundable, there will be a €25 cancellation fee and we will charge you for each day of cover you had. 
  • If you have paid by direct debit, the service charge will be retained once we have applied for your first instalment.
  • Please remember if you had a claim on your policy during the year, no refund will be due and we will seek payment of your policy in full. Once the policy has been cancelled, we will send you a letter confirming this. If you gave us an email address, we will email you this letter, otherwise it will be posted to the postal address we have for you.

For Travel Insurance Customers

To cancel your Travel Insurance policy you will need to contact our Travel team to confirm when you want the policy to be cancelled from. If you are sending your request in writing it can be posted, emailed or faxed to us.

If emailing this, please remember it must come from the email address noted on your policy and be registered in the name of the policyholder.

You can cancel your policy within your 14 day cooling off period once you have not travelled or made a claim on the policy.  If you are outside your 14 day cooling off period, the policy is non-refundable.

For Pet Insurance Customers

To cancel your Pet Insurance policy you will need to contact our Pet team to confirm when you want the policy to be cancelled from.

If you are sending your request in writing it can be posted, emailed or faxed to us.

If emailing this, please remember it must come from the email address noted on your policy and be registered in the name of the policyholder.

If you are outside your 14 day cooling off period, there will be a €30 cancellation fee and we will charge you for each day of cover you had.   If you have made a claim, you will not be entitled to a refund of premium.
