My Policy Cover

My property is unoccupied. Am I still covered?

For Home Insurance Customers

In the case of:

Owner occupied & a property you are renting:

If your home is unoccupied for up to 45 days, your cover will remain as normal. If it is unoccupied for more than 45 days, there will be changes to the level of cover provided. For example cover for theft or attempted theft or vandalism is excluded once the home is unoccupied for longer than 45 days.

If your property will be unoccupied for more than 45 consecutive days you will need to contact our Customer Care team. You will need to let us know:

  • The reason the premises will be unoccupied
  • The dates that the property will be unoccupied for
  • If the property will be furnished

Our Customer Care team will advise you of changes to the cover once they have all of the above information.

Holiday home:

Between 1st November and 31st March, if your home is unoccupied for any length of time you will need to make sure that you have switched the water off at the mains and have drained all the water from the system.

During the remainder of the year the same exclusion applies once the house has been unoccupied for 14 consecutive days or more.

Please make sure to read through the holiday home un-occupancy endorsement that is included on your insurance schedule for full details of this.

There are other sections of the policy which are excluded on the property had been unoccupied for more than 45 days so please refer to your policy pack for full details.
